- The IP address is used to compute a hash and to resolve a country, then discarded. It is written to no table and to no log line.
- The secret behind that hash is replaced every night and the old one is destroyed, which makes following someone across two days impossible rather than merely forbidden.

What people ask before they sign.
Do I really need no consent banner?
Panel stores nothing on the visitor's device and holds no identifier that outlives the night, so there is nothing to ask consent for under the ePrivacy rules on terminal storage. That is a property of the code rather than a promise in a policy: the identifier is a hash of a secret that is replaced every night and destroyed, so the data itself cannot be re-linked afterwards. Read the privacy page, then decide with your own counsel.
How do you count returning visitors, then?
Within a day, we can. Across days, we deliberately cannot — that is the whole trade. If following a person from one week to the next is a requirement for you, Panel is the wrong product and we would rather say so here than after you have installed it.
Where is the data stored?
On a server in Germany, inside the European Union. If that ever changes, this page changes the same day.
How heavy is the script?
One tag, loaded with defer, with no dependencies and no blocking request. It adds nothing to your first paint.
What happens if my public key leaks?
The collector answers 204 to every request, valid or not, so it never confirms that a key exists. A stolen key lets somebody push noise into your account; it reads nothing at all. Keys are revoked and replaced from the dashboard.
What if a visitor blocks the script?
Then that visit is not counted, and Panel says nothing rather than guessing. An undercount you know about is worth more than a number assembled from assumptions.
Can I get per-person profiles?
No, and not as a roadmap item either. A profile needs an identifier that survives, and an identifier that survives is exactly what this product is built not to have.
